LFS: The origin of the cactus

And yet another search: In many ATF-stories there are references to a cactus on Ezra's desk as well as a print of the alphabet on Vin's. I have once read a story that described the origin of those two items but I can't find it anymore.
Help please?

And while I'm already posting: Would anybody rec me any good Vin and Ezra friendship stories? I don't care which universe as long as it is well written.
